HAPPY RADHASTAMI !!!

Srimate Radharani ......Happy Appearance Day!!!

Watch the JALEBI Music video in honor of Srimate Radharani "Jaya Radhe (The Girl Has Got It All)" !!

Srimati Radharani is the eternal consort of Lord Krishna. Her appearance day is celebrated exactly two weeks after Krishna's. Radharani's special qualification is that She is the best devotee of Krishna. Krishna therefore loves Her the most.

On Her festival day, devotees seeking Krishna's grace will especially ask Her to grant them devotion to Her beloved Lord, knowing that if they can attain Her favour, they can attain His as a natural consequence. Others may pray to Lord Krishna that He may permit them to approach the lotus feet of Srimati Radharani, knowing that if He is satisfied by their prayer then She will smile upon them also and pure devotion will be theirs.

Sri Sri Radha and Krishna are the Eternal Divine Couple and are forever bound up in transcendental love for one another. Worshipping Them is the goal of life for Gaudiya Vaisnavas. This esoteric subject matter is not openly discussed by devotees but on this special day devotees will remind themselves of the sublime goal of their religious practices.

On Radhastami, Sri Sri Radha Krishna deities are traditionally dressed entirely in flowers. A spectacular sight not to be missed! Also, please note that only on this day may you receive the auspicious darshan of Srimati Radharani's lotus feet. On all other days Her feet remain covered. Devotees will fast until noon and sing devotional songs in praise of the Divine Couple and Their pastimes. Then a feast is served, most often including the famous Radha Red — a delicious, spicey, plum chutney.

Krishna's Birthday Bash

Krishna, the blue-faced prankster, is a beloved Hindu deity. His birthday, Janmashtami, is a joyous day with a serious message.
By Lavina Melwani

A Janmashtami celebration at Boston's Hare Krishna temple

To know Lord Krishna is to adore him. He is the blue-skinned God, the eighth incarnation of Vishnu, Preserver of the World. He is the Cosmic Cowherd, the mischievous deity that Hindus love the most for his pranks, for his butter-thievery, for his melodious flute, for his romantic interludes with Gopis, the milkmaids. He fought demons, danced on the mighty serpent's head and lifted Govardhana hill with his little finger, using it like an umbrella, to protect the people from torrential rains.

Yet one anecdote encompasses it all: as a naughty child hankering after butter, he would stand on the shoulders of other children to reach the pots of butter that hung from the ceiling. His mother, sure the incriminating proof was in his mouth, ordered him to open his mouth. She was mesmerized to see entire universes in the child's mouth, and knew then that all the incidents were merely part of the Lord's Leela or celestial play.

Janmashtami--the birth of Lord Krishna--is September 4 this year. It is little surprise that devotees gather in the hundreds, in the thousands, in temples across India and around the world. It is a very special and festive day, and they wait in anticipation, surrounding the symbolic baby crib, singing devotional songs. It's a day of exuberant celebration befitting the birthday of a beloved deity, yet Janmashtami also has a much deeper message: It's a reminder to do one's duty in life, no matter how difficult, and to keep on the path of dharma, to surrender one's life to Krishna because all else is maya, or illusion.

The story behind the birth of Krishna is intriguing, and one most Hindu children have grown up with: the wicked King Kansa had been told that he would meet his death at the hands of his yet unborn nephew. To thwart that, he had his only sister Devaki and her husband Vashdev imprisoned, and murdered each of their seven sons as they were born.

Just as the eighth child--Lord Krishna--was born, the prison locks magically opened and Vashdev managed to escape with the baby Krishna in a wicker basket on his head. The river was raging but touching the divine baby's feet, it receded. Krishna was brought up by a simple cowherd Nand and his wife Yashoda, and the evil Kansa did meet his death at his hands, as it was foretold.

Krishna is the vanquisher of all evil and the guide for right living. In the mighty Mahabharata war in which the Pandavas battled their kinsmen, the Kauravas, he drove the Pandava warrior Arjuna's chariot and instructed him to perform his duty, to be on the side of dharma or righteousness. When Arjuna hesitated to fight against his own brethren, Krishna enlightened him with wisdom that encompasses all aspects of living. These words are immortalized in the 700 slokas of the Bhagavad Gita or the Song of the Lord, which has sustained people across the world.

Why do Hindus love Krishna so much? He is the all-pervading, omnipresent One without whom even a leaf cannot stir, but he assumes a very accessible human form, becoming babe, naughty child, son, friend and lover. There is an instant bonding and connection between this deity and his devotees because Krishna is all about love.

The Bhakti or devotional movement in many parts of India revolves around Krishna, for his love for his beloved Radha is about cosmic love, about the union of soul and the Supreme Being.

Krishna is very much a part of a Hindu's life: Many children are named after him – the deity has hundreds of names so there's plenty to choose from! Interestingly, Krishna is a name for both male and female children and the parents certainly hope they will take on his shining attributes. Everything associated with Krishna is auspicious--there's even a Krishna Savings Bank in Delhi and a Lord Krishna Bank in Kerala!

Krishna's devotees are also found in the movement commonly known as the Hare Krishnas--formally called the International Society for Krishna Consciousness--that was started in the United States by A.C. Bhaktivedanta in the 1960s and which now has centers all over the world. You may have seen the Hare Krishna devotees dancing on the streets or at airports.

Walk into a Hare Krishna temple and you see that same blissful abandon before the images of Krishna. Vegetarian feasts are served, free for everybody, based on the many delicacies that Krishna loved--butter, ghee, and milk.

In addition to ISKCON temples, Janmashtami is celebrated with pomp and pageantry, with dance performances and skits of Krishna's life, in the many temples throughout America that were founded since the 1960s by Indian immigrants.

"Janmashtami, the birth of Lord Krishna at midnight which is the darkest moment of the night, symbolizes that the Lord manifested Himself from the prison cell, thus vigorously illuminating the universe, dispelling the darkness of ignorance," says Dr. Uma Mysorekar, president of the Hindu Temple Society of North America.

Having grown up in New Delhi, I have vivid memories of the Janmashtami celebrations at the pink sandstone Lakshmi Narayan temple, which was lit up beautifully. In the gardens of the temple complex is a pond in the middle of which a statue of Vashdev carrying the Baby Krishna on his head had been set up. I still remember it and the festive air as hundreds pushed to get a better view. Janmashtami is a time of devotion, as I found at a recent celebration in New York where hundreds crowded into a temple in Queens, singing, dancing and chanting.

Many devotees also fast on this day, eating only after midnight, says Pundit Mahesh Shastri, a Hindu priest in New York. He explains that the icon of Krishna is bathed in milk, yogurt, ghee, honey, sugar, and water. A traditional prasad or benediction is given to all the devotees--the Panchajiri, made of five ingredients, in North Indian temples while South Indian temples favor puffed rice, a great favorite of Krishna.

In India, the day after Janmashtami is one of revelry, keeping with Krishna's fun-loving spirit. Clay pots of curds and butter are suspended from poles in the streets in towns like Mathura and Vrindaban, where Krishna lived, and also in cosmopolitan cities like Mumbai.

Bands of boisterous youth form human towers to get to the pots, mimicking Krishna's exploits. To shouts of 'Govinda Ala Re!' (Govinda is coming!), colored water is thrown on bystanders and participants--and yes, the pots contain money for those daring enough to reach them.

The revelry is fun, of course, but it's much more than a birthday bash for Krishna. Underlying the celebration is the importance of devotion to Krishna's teachings. As the Lord explains in the Bhagavad Gita: "Before creation I alone existed. There was nothing, neither existence nor non-existence. I am that which remains after dissolution."

Kids With High IQs Grow Up to Be Vegetarians
The smarter they are, the more likely they'll shun meat as adults, British researchers contend/i>

By Steven Reinberg (HealthDay Reporter)

Introduction by Shirley Marie Bradby (MiraBai Devi Dasi)

It does not matter whether you possess a high IQ or not….everyone can be smart enough to know what is good for them….both materially and spiritually! : )

If you are truly interested in JALEBI Music and its message of transcendental love, peace and harmony…….. then you should know that all of the JALEBI band members are not only VEGETARIANS but we are also SPIRITUALISTS.

As devotees of Sri Krsna we do not eat fish, eggs or meat. Moreover as spiritual vegetarians not only do we respect all animal and other life forms but we also honor and respect plant life by offering all of our vegetarian foodstuffs to God before we consume them.

We do this because in the Bhagavad-Gita, Sri Krsna explicitly says, “If one offers me with love an devotion a leaf, a flower, fruit or water, I will accept it.” (B.G. 9.26)

Every religious and spiritual path asks it followers to pray to God in love and gratitude for sustaining our physical bodies and to pray most of all to stay connected with God so as to make spiritual progress.

There are various rituals for different religions and spiritual paths but all true spiritualists know that the real rule of conduct is to act with LOVE and COMPASSION. When your heart is full of spiritual and transcendental love you would never even dream of hurting.... much less killing…… any living entity for any reason….much less for so-called gastronomical pleasure.

Besides….. if another living entity gives up its body and therefore its life….. to sustain ours then there should be at least respect and gratitude on our part, right? And if we can sustain our bodies without unnecessary violence and killing all the better! By becoming a vegetarian a person is at least demonstrating that they are truly trying to practice the love, peace and harmony that the world is saying it so desperately needs!

Where is the love and respect ….and compassion…..when a cow, pig, chicken, lamb, turkey, goat, etc is killed just because they “taste good”? If you think about it….. all animal slaughter is practically premeditated murder. The step between killing an animal because we “need to eat it” to killing other human beings because they have something we “ need” (land, natural resources, money, love, sex, etc) is often a short and quick one. Animal killing decreases our capacity for respect and compassion for other living entities. Think about it. Let’s get and stay….smart!

By the way….. even if you are not inclined to be a spiritualist..... a vegetarian diet .....just considering the material and physical aspects.... is an intelligent move towards a longer and healthier life! Why can't ALL animals (not just our pets!!!) be treated with respect and ....compassion?

If you would like to read my personal story about being a spiritual vegetarian and share your thoughts and comments with me then please go to the JALEBI Music Blog. Thank you!

500 Pictures Of Bhakti Tirtha Swami Puspa Samadhi Ceremony

Bhakti Tirtha Swami - Minister of Love - Gita Nagari 2007

To honor the memory of Sripada Bhakti Tirtha Swami, there are disciples building a memorial monument (Samadhi - in Sanskrit) in our spiritual community, Gita Nagari Farm in central Pennsylvania. Samadhi literally means reaching a state of singular focus (meditation).

The Samadhi in Gita Nagari is a memorial monument that serves as an inspiration to all those who see it to think about or meditate on the life and devotional service of Sripada Bhakti Tirtha Swami who worked, strived, struggled, suffered, hoped, cried and endured for all of us.

A physical structure will be a source of permanent inspiration for everyone, especially since Gita Nagari was dear to his heart and was where he spent his final days at Gita nagari. This was one of his last desires in the service of HDG AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.

Here below we present a slide show of 500 pictures in special offering for Srila Prabhupada, Bhakti Tirtha Swami and Disciples.

Who is Lord Nrisimhadeva?

NRISIMHADEVA APPEARANCE DAY! May 1 , 2007

NRISIMHADEV KI JAYA !!!

By performing the rigorous austerity Hiranyakasipu received benedictions from Lord Brahma that he could not be killed in the day or in the night, he should not die on land or in the air or in the water, he would not be killed by any human demigod or animal, he could not be killed by any weapon etc: Lord Brahma agreed.

After receiving these benedictions Hiranyakasipu became more demonic and began conquering the material universe.
In time Hiranyakasipu had a son called Prahlada. Prahlada was a great devotee of Lord Krishna even from birth. As a small boy of five he would preach about Krishna to his school friends any time the teachers left the room. Prahlada's preaching infuriated his father, Hiranyakasipu.

Hiranyakasipu became so angry that he ordered Prahlada to be killed. Despite all his efforts to kill his five year old son, Pralad was always protected by the Lord. Neither boiling in oil, nor poison, not being thrown off a cliff, nor being thrown in fire, nor being trampled by elephants could harm Pralad.
But Prahlada kept chanting Hare Krishna and he was protected by Krishna's holy name.
Hiranyakasipu, seeing that none of these things could kill Prahlada.

Since through all this Prahlada was not harmed, Hiranyakasipu thought he must have some mystic power.
Hiranyakasipu demanded to know where he got his super human powers from.

Prahlada replied that he got his strength from the same place as Hiranyakasipu did--from God. Hiranyakasipu demanded to know what was this God where was this God. Prahlada explained that God is everywhere that everything comes from God. Hiranyakasipu, despite all that had happened, could not believe in God and began pointing to things demanding if they were God. Hiranyakasipu demanded if God was in a big pillar nearby in the palace. When Prahlada said, "Yes, my Lord is in that pillar," Hiranyakasipu stated that he would kill Prahlada's God by using his mace to smash the pillar. As he smashed the pillar Lord Nrsimhadeva, the half man, half lion incarnation of Krishna appeared from the broken pillar and pounced on the shocked demon.

Nrsimhadeva stretched Hiranyakasipu across his lap and with his long nails, he ripped apart the demon. Hiranyakasipu died instantly on Nrsimhadeva's blood drenched lap. He was killed neither on the land, sea nor in the air but on the lap of the Supreme Lord. He was killed neither during the day or the night but in the twilight. He was killed by neither beast nor man, but by the lord's lotus hands and was kill with no weapons but with the nails of Lord Nrsimhadeva. Thus Hiranyakasipu's benediction from Lord Brahma remained intact and he was killed by the personification of fear, Krishna Himself in His half-man, half-lion form, Lord Nrsimhadeva.

CARE FOR COWS in Vrindavan, India (17 November 2006)

"To a man whose mind is free there is something even more intolerable in the sufferings of animals than in the sufferings of man. For with the latter it is at least admitted that suffering is evil and that the man who causes it is a criminal. But thousands of animals are uselessly butchered every day without a shadow of remorse."

Romain Rolland, Nobel Prize 1915

You have just dined, and however scrupulously the slaughterhouse is concealed in the graceful distance of miles, there is complicity.
